TIME is running out for Worcester City to sign a striker before the registration deadline.

The Blue and Whites have until 5pm to bolster their squad and joint-managers Carl Heeley and Matt Gardiner have been working “round-the-clock” to land a forward.

Heeley admitted they had received “dozens” of knock backs from players they were keen to bring to City who are just four points above the relegation area in Vanarama National League North.

But he revealed they were close to snapping up a striker before the registration window closes.

“I have been running around and I have not been off my phone as I have been trying to get something over the line,” he said.

“In fact, I am driving up to Cannock area now to try and get a deal over the line for a forward, but time is running out.”

Worcester’s search comes after Walsall loan forward Amadou Bakayoko suffered a “nasty-looking” knee injury in training which is expected to rule him out for the rest of the season.

“It was quite clear after losing Amadou we needed to get another forward in and I am trying to get that done now, “ Heeley added.

“But me and Matt have not been off our phones since last weekend and we have had dozens of knock backs, but it is not for the want of trying.

“We are working round-the-clock to get someone in. Hopefully we can get one over the line before the deadline this afternoon.”
