YOUNG footballers from Pitmaston Primary School will be representing West Bromwich Albion at the National Premier League Schools final.

The Year 5/6 team will be travelling to Everton’s Goodison Park ground next month after winning the regional finals at West Bromwich Albion Academy Dome.

The boys had already overcome 20 other local schools to reach the regional stage and they finished the initial round with a win and two draws.

A brilliant penalty save from Ben Matthews proved the difference as Pitmaston edged out Moat Farm Junior School in a dramatic semi-final shoot-out.

It remained 0-0 after extra-time before Pitmaston prevailed.

In the final, Pitmaston faced old foes Witton Middle School and recorded a 1-0 win.

The boys had been humiliated in a previous final where Witton had come out 3-0 winners.

However, this gave each player more determination to set the record straight and the game began at a furious pace, with Pitmaston putting much of the early pressure on the middle school team.

It wasn’t long before Pitmaston were ahead. Captain Louis Lewis smashed in a free-kick and Ben Thompson reacted to rifle the ball into the net and wild celebrations erupted soon afterwards.
