AFC Brickfields are celebrating after going the entire McDonald’s Worcester and District Football League Division Three campaign without losing.

But winger Dan Woodward believes their success has been overshadowed by claims from rivals they are a team of “bullies” despite a “significantly-improved” disciplinary record this season.

After launching in 2014, Brickfields won Division Five and the Bernard Finnegan Cup before moving up two levels and finishing this term with an unblemished record.

Woodward said he was proud to be “a part of history” but felt his unbeaten team had not received the praise they deserved.

“We get discriminated against because we like to rough teams up a little bit,” he said.

“There are worse players out there who go out to hurt people but we go out to play football and win trophies.

“Teams call us bullies but we are not. We are just up for it and play with a never-say-die attitude.

“We have won three trophies in two years but we have not been recognised for it.”

Brickfields picked up five red cards during the 2014-15 campaign according to league figures on the full-time.thefa.com website, leading to meetings with Worcestershire Football Association in a bid to clean up their act.

This season, though, Worcestershire FA said the King George V Playing Fields-based team have "significantly improved" their disciplinary record and Woodward insisted they had worked hard on that front.

“We did not help ourselves last season as we were getting a lot of bookings,” he said.

“But this season we have cut down on the reds and yellows.

”We have had so many meetings about all the trouble we were getting into but this season we have got our heads down and got on with it properly.”

A Worcestershire FA spokesman said: “It is pleasing to note the club’s disciplinary record has significantly improved this season.”

Joe Corbett netted 20 goals as Brickfields, led by captain Jason Payne, ended the league campaign with 13 wins and five draws.

Woodward said Brickfield’s spirit and ability to “win ugly” had been the difference this season.

“We were bumped up two leagues, which was quite hard, but we brought in a couple of key players and they have fitted in perfectly,” he said.

“We have all competed well and got another league title.

“We have fallen behind to some teams we should have been beating but we have stuck to it and got points out of the game.

“As soon as we started looking towards the end of the season, we wanted to keep the unbeaten run going as we knew teams were aiming just to beat us.

“But we have worked together and got through the season unbeaten.”

Woodward added: “You see some teams go unbeaten and you think that would be great to be a part of.

“So, to actually do it this year, I feel part of history.”
