THREE students from Worcester Golf and Country Club’s academy lifted prestigious trophies.

Leading the way was Ted Pickering in the Worcestershire Boys’ Championship at Droitwich with gross scores of 76 and 74 securing the under 16 trophy.

The King’s School Worcester pupil also shot a gross level par 70 to lift the club’s August junior medal.

Pickering joined the Boughton Park club at the age of 12 and, with the help of coaching from one of the club’s PGA professionals Ian Henry, has reduced his handicap to five.

Another junior Giles Winthrop won the Broadway Golf Club junior open with a gross 74.

Winthrop, another student with Henry, shot a gross 73 in the August junior medal and reduced his handicap to five.

Tom Deehan took the best nett prize at Broadway. He has regular lessons with PGA professional Graham Farr and is now playing off six.

Other club juniors to represent the club at county level are Ben Finch, Alex Band, Pickering, James Lloyd, Ben Wadley and Ben Parsons.

Their success reflects the coaching at the club and they are offering free taster sessions throughout August and September for under 18s.
