VENUE regular Phil Hunt won the annual Leigh Sinton Fisheries’ Acorns charity match with a top weight of 27lb 4oz 0dr.

Offering maggot bait on a hook into the margins on the Kingfisher pool, the New Ivy Leaf AC competitor took bream to 4lb, large perch and a few small carp.

Runner-up was Dan Sydall on the same lake, where he netted an all-carp 20-9 on the method feeder.

Top rod on the Bluebell Wood pool was Acorns representative Paul Atkins with 18-12 of waggler and meat-fed carp to beat John Allerton’s 16-10 mixed bag.

The day raised £400 for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

John Moloney won the Droitwich Spa event on the canal at Porters Mill with four skimmers and plenty of roach and perch from the centre channel on peg 14 going 13-12.

Chris Ballard came second with 11-7-8 of bream and perch from peg four in the first pound, while in third place was veteran Anthony Hamilton with 8-8. Section prizes went to Dave Lowe, Kev Downton and Gary Owen.

Catfish ace Mick Watling found carp in a feeding mood in the Whitehall contest on the club pool, where he netted 17-0 on luncheon meat for a rare victory.

Second was Gareth Cook with a pellet-caught 16-2 and third came Carl Graham’s 11-9 catch.

Section winners were Len Merrill and Rob Page.

The Ron Goldsmith invitation was held on the same venue. Despite having his rod pulled into the lake and breaking his landing net pole, the winner Derek Stephens went on to put 18-6 onto the scales.

He beat John Shelton’s 18-4 peg 16 catch, while third was club owner Mike Hope with 14-10.

Graham Millingham caught 68-4 of meat-fed carp to win the Halfway House contest at Church Farm with all his fish from the margins of peg 31.

Second was Graham Goodyear junior, who also targeted the margins of peg 21 with dead maggots for a weight of 62-6.

Third was Pete Jones with 50-0, beating Paul Butler who, fishing only his second match, took a creditable 45-8 for fourth place.

The club hold their annual doubles contest on August 21.

The charity match for the Midlands Air Ambulance, sponsored by Worcester Angling Centre, was held at Broadheath.

The trophy winner was Mark Smith with 116-7 from the Old Pool.

Ian Pitman was second with 84-8, while the Sycamore pool winner was Mark Birbeck with 79-12 ahead of Robin Ballard with 69-5.
