TWO city children shone in Worcester’s Winter Junior Chess Tournament at The King’s School.

Tamara Marsden (King’s School) and Jacob Gwilliam (St Alban’s) narrowly missed out on third place in a hard-fought competition.

Finlay Bowcott-Terry (Leasowes High School, Dudley) was crowned the overall winner after recording 15 points. Although only 11-years-old, Finlay is a regular league player for Halesowen Chess Club and won all his games.

Chinmay Monga (King Edward’s School, Edgbaston) took second spot with a return of 13 points. Three players finished on 11 points and Silas Bowcott-Terry (Woodhouse Primary, Quinton) pipped Tamara Marsden and Jacob Gwilliam on a tie-break.

Ray Collett and Rob Walkowiak organised the tournament for Worcestershire Junior Chess Academy with support from The King’s School.

Meanwhile, Terry Radford (Droitwich) helped Worcester’s under-120 team to a 7½-4½ win against Lincolnshire.
