PETER Bennet won the Worcester Backgammon Turkey Tourney.
Players travelled from Cheltenham, London, Manchester, Coventry, Birmingham and Lowestoft to Barbourne Ex-Servicemen’s Club.
London’s Bennet narrowly beat Worcester’s Lauren Stilliard in the main competition final.
Worcester players did well against opponents with much more experience and higher rankings in the United Kingdom Backgammon Federation.
Thirty-two contested the main competition with a consolation and last turkey event for beaten players.
Tim Cross defeated Dorothy Lee in the consolation with both players from Manchester.
Worcester’s Richard Munslow took the last turkey against London’s Richard Biddle.
The players held their presentation and meal at The Bombay Palace before going to the Lamb and Flag pub for a few games at the club’s original venue.
The day raised more than £220 for Mind charity.
The new season is starting and new players are welcome to Barbourne Ex-Servicemen’s Club on Tuesdays from about 7.30pm.
