JODIE Gibson says she will make sure her team-mates are “out for blood” when Severn Stars travel to reigning Vitality Superleague champions Surrey Storm tomorrow (7pm).

The England international was part of the Manchester Thunder side who suffered a heart-breaking 55-53 defeat to Storm in last season’s play-off final.

After signing for Stars, Gibson, who can play goal defence, goalkeeper and wing defence, admits she has yet to erase that loss from her memory.

Captain Laura Malcolm and Eleanor Cardwell also made the move from Thunder to Worcester’s first professional netball club.

And Gibson, 24, said they were using that disappointment as fuel for Stars as they look to kick off their debut campaign in style.

“I am out for revenge this year,” she said.

“I am going to get the girls all geed up and they are going to feel like they were part of Thunder last season so we are going to be out for blood.”

Gibson’s pre-season preparations were disrupted by an ankle injury which she sustained in October.

But after a period away with the England team the defensive ace is confident she can make an impact with Stars in the coming weeks.

“It has been very tough, especially having come in from a different team and into a new environment,” she said.

“All the girls are really friendly, everyone’s really nice and the staff are lovely so the transition has not been too bad.

“But I am just itching to get on court so that has been the hardest bit.

“It was good to be in that environment with England to try to get back my game so now I have come back to Stars in a really good place and I am ready to get on court with the girls.”

Stars feature in a 10-team league which also includes fellow new franchises Scottish Sirens and Wasps.

Gibson added: “It would be great if we could start the season well and build from there so we are very excited to get going.

“For us our first season is about building and making sure we are learning and putting out our best performance each time.

“We have got girls who have not played in the Superleague before but that doesn’t matter if we train well and play our own game.

“We just need to go out there and perform.”
