ENGLAND wing Kay Wilson scored four tries as the Red Roses began their 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup campaign with a convincing 56-5 win over Spain.
They produced an entertaining attacking performance against the eighth-ranked side in the world with 10 tries in the first game in the defence of their trophy won three years ago.
Megan Jones and a hat-trick from Wilson gave England a 24-5 half time lead at the UCD Bowl, Dublin, as Spain crossed just before the break out wide after a quick tap penalty.
Replacement Emily Scarratt scored two minutes after the break with Harriet Millar-Mills, Alex Matthews, Amy Cokayne, Worcester Valkyries’ Lydia Thompson and a fourth from Wilson breaking the 50-point mark.
It was a 10th Test win in a row for England with Italy and USA to play in their final two pool games.
Valkyries prop Rochelle Clark appeared at her fourth world cup after coming on as a replacement.
