LEDBURY Rugby Club look forward to welcoming Jonathan Agnew from the world of cricket as guest speaker at their sportsman's dinner.

A triumphant dinner last season saw the legendary JJ Williams regale the assembly with tales of British Lions tours.

Another entertaining evening is promised but this time from the contrasting world of willow and leather.

It is a major coup for the Ross Road club to engage the services of the renowned commentator.

In a first-class career spent entirely with Leicestershire, Agnew took more than 650 first-class wickets, including a best of 9-70, and represented England in three Test matches and three one-day internationals.

The four-course dinner and black tie event will be on Thursday, October 19, in the Pavilion Rooms, Ross Road.

Tickets are £50 per head and two-thirds have already been sold.

Meanwhile, Ledbury have a game under the Ross Road floodlights on Friday night against local rivals Upton in Midlands Three West (South).

They lost 31-17 at Shipston-on-Stour last weekend while the seconds beat Luctonians thirds 41-32 at home.
