WORCESTER'S Michal Figlak secured top ranking in the United Kingdom as an amateur mixed martial arts (MMA) lightweight fighter.

He beat local favourite Scott Pedersen in Newport, Wales, via a unanimous decision to establish an MMA record of 10 wins and two losses.

Figlak, who plans to turn professional, fights for Trojan Free Fighters Gloucester and Worcester in Cage Warriors who promote the sport across Europe.

The 21-year-old moved from his hometown in Poland to Worcester in 2007.

The qualified maintenance engineer spends most of his time juggling his day job and his training schedule.

Figlak said: “It felt great to be able to fully express myself inside the cage and let all the hard work show.

“I will turn professional next year and take over the British MMA scene by the end of it!”
