HEREFORD United are hopeful of tying up a deal for Watford striker Theo Robinson early next week.

The 18-year-old striker has impressed on trial during pre-season and scored in the 3-2 friendly defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers in mid-week.

It was hoped his signature would have been secured in time for tomorrow's League Two warm-up match with Cheltenham Town (3pm) but it is now expected a deal will be finalised in the next few days.

The acquisition of Robinson would take the number of strikers in Graham Turner's squad to four alongside Steve Guinan, Marcus Palmer and new signing Trevor Benjamin.

Fellow new addition Lionel Ainsworth, who, like Benjamin, has agreed a one-year deal at Edgar Street, can be utilised up front and netted United's second goal against Wolves.

Ainsworth, released by Derby County at the end of last season, has represented England at under 17 and under 19 level and also gained League Two experience on loan at Wycombe Wanderers earlier this year.

French midfielder Toumani Diagouraga, at Watford with Robinson, also featured in the Wolves defeat.

The 20-year-old made his first-team debut for the Hornets in a League Cup victory against Wolves in September 2005 but joined Swindon Town on loan the following March after making just three more starts.

Goalkeeper Scott Brown is also on trial with Hereford and deputised for the injured Wayne Brown against Mick McCarthy's Wolves.

Brown has previously been on the books of both Bristol City and the Molineux club where he joined as a trainee under current Cheltenham boss John Ward.

Jamaican international Benjamin, 28, scored 11 goals last season for Peterborough and while on loan at Walsall.
