WINGER Alex Tomkinson admitted joint-boss Lee Hughes’s stinging criticism of Worcester City in midweek had been “more than fair”.

Ex-West Bromwich Albion striker Hughes pulled no punches in his post-match assessment, accusing City of complacency after allowing a two-goal lead to slip in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at AFC Wulfrunians.

Tomkinson played a part in both of Worcester’s goals but acknowledged the players may have thought “we had already won the game” in the second half before vowing to bounce back in tomorrow’s visit to Midland Football League leaders Coleshill Town (3pm).

“The change between the two halves made it look like we had put out two completely different teams,” said Tomkinson.

“We had been dominating and were absolutely cruising. In the second half we started brightly but just faded out, to me it seemed like we had already won the game.

“We cannot change like that and expect to win. As soon as Wulfrunians got a goal back they were boosted.”

On Hughes’s comments, he added: “That was more than fair and I agree with him. The difference is hard to put into words.

“We are one of the biggest teams in the league. Other teams see playing us as one of their biggest games of the season and up their standards but we have high expectations and that will never change.

“We still expect to win the league and go up. We have been dropping points here and there but we still got a point and will go again on Saturday to make sure things are put right.”

Tomkinson, signed in September from Coventry Sphinx, revealed he had undertaken extra training under the tutelage of joint-boss John Snape in a bid to boost his fitness.

“I am not 100 per cent fit but am getting there," he added. "Snapper and I have something working to make sure I reach my full potential.

“We are doing different things including a gym programme and in my time off I am putting in 100 per cent and doing extras.

“If I want to get the best out of myself I cannot just look to the managers, I need to put in the graft and am more than happy to do that.

“The assists are coming now, I am getting more involved on the offensive side and all I want to add to my game is goals.”

On tomorrow’s match, Tomkinson added: “We train on 3G so will be used to it. Let’s hope there’s a bit of water on it.

“We have some of the best ball players in the league so it should suit us down to the ground.”
