ALEX Tomkinson insists even the lure of a bumper deal elsewhere will not tempt him away from Worcester City.

The 22-year-old winger is the subject of an approach from an as-yet unidentified Midland Football League title rival. who can speak with him from Monday.

Since arriving from Coventry Sphinx in September, Tomkinson has scored five goals in 16 matches as well as providing plenty of assists in recent weeks.

Both player and club remain tight lipped on where the overtures emanate from but Tomkinson was quick to clarify that he sees his immediate future with City.

“I am going to stay at Worcester for the remainder of the season,” said Tomkinson.

“Money helps but it is not what I play for. I am enjoying my football, getting a lot of game time and working hard to get myself to full fitness.

“There is no need to change anything and I am in no rush to try to.

“The management has faith in me, they don’t see me as a one-season player. They are playing me at a time when I am still working on my fitness.

"A big part of that is time on the pitch and I am getting that regularly which I am thankful for.”

Tomkinson’s attention now turns to City’s next outing, a home league clash with Coventry United tomorrow (3pm).

Having featured for Barwell and Coventry Sphinx, the Nuneaton-based wide man has plenty of connections east of Birmingham and knows all too well about the changes implemented by United since falling away from the promotion race.

A second-half brace from Shaquille McDonald fired Coventry United to a 2-0 victory at Shepshed Dynamo at the start of the month, their first win since mid-November.

That eight-match winless streak in all competitions, albeit predominantly against some of the league’s leading lights, was punctuated by a flurry of postponements which has seen United slip to 12th.

But Tomkinson is adamant Worcester will not take their eye off the ball following a memorable 1-0 at then-leaders Coleshill Town six days ago.

“I had a few friends that played there but I think all of them have left now,” he added.

“They were one of the teams looking to challenge for the title earlier in the season. There might have been a few changes but they will be ready for it, all teams are when they play against Worcester.

“Nothing is taken for granted. Everyone is the changing room is buzzing from Saturday and we know we need to keep the momentum going.

“We are all going into this one with high hopes and looking to win.”
