ALL things considered, I think three points from our first two games is a good return.

Our top target would have been four points from the matches against Hyde and Hinckley, which would have been a superb start, and we are only a point short of that.

If we had drawn both games that would have been OK so we are on track as we head to Burscough at the weekend.

The second-half performance against Hyde on Saturday was a bit disappointing but we had a chat afterwards and we concentrated on the positives, which were the first 45 minutes.

City created six opportunities to their three in the first-half and if we had taken one of them we could have been looking at victory.

We talked about being positive and going at teams and we went to Hinckley on Monday night with that at the forefront of our minds. I thought we played really well, went for the throat from the first minute and deserved to be two goals up.

It was a really positive performance, full of energy and desire, and a great result against a team who were five minutes from being in the Conference last season, losing 4-3 late on against Farsley in the play-off final.

From the first minute we set out to have a right go at them and that ultimately got us the result - even though I think at 3-2 it was tight and we had to battle and put our bodies on the line.

The best way to kill the game was to get that fourth goal and once we got it through Mark Danks it was game over.

If that goal had been scored in the Premiership you'd be enthusing about it. To have the quality to flick it over the defender and then to have the calmness to finish was top drawer.

He took some horrible abuse from a section of fans after the game against Hyde and that's the way he answered it.

I am also pleased that we managed to win on Monday without our two centre-halves in Chris Smith and Shabir Khan.

Chris was a touch-and-go decision. He got a bang on his hamstring as well as his ankle against Hyde and I was not prepared to take the risk of him being out for six weeks and missing 12 games for the sake of one.

If he had pulled his hamstring, it would have been a disaster but I am hopeful he will be fit for Saturday.

Fellow defender Shabir should be fit in the next couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, I would like to reiterate our thanks to the supporters club for paying for the pre-season weekend at Hartpury College, which cost £540.50.

We are building links with the supporters and it was a fantastic contribution for them to make and it's important we continue that relationship with the fans. I feel we have good links with the vast majority.

There's just a few that spoil it for the others. We can see the main ones are trying to help and will do anything, such as digging into their pockets, to help the team. They want success as much as we do. We certainly don't take the fans for granted.
