WORCESTERSHIRE'S overseas player Travis Head has been called up by Australia for next month's one-day international series in England.

The left-hander, who has played in the opening five County Championship matches, will temporarily depart Blackfinch New Road on May 29.

He can play in Rapids' first four Royal London One-Day Cup matches including Saturday’s opening North Group home game with Derbyshire Falcons.

Head, 24, has also been selected for Australia’s T20 Series in Zimbabwe from July 1 until 8.

He will return to the County on July 9 so will miss the opening three Vitality Blast games.

County CEO Matt Rawnsley said: “Travis has to link up with Australia at the end of May to prepare for the ODI Series against England after we originally thought he would be available for the bulk of the North Group programme.

“He then has been selected for a short T20 tour of Zimbabwe straight after the ODIs before returning to us on July 9.

“We are pleased for him to get the international recognition and we will be announcing our overseas replacement when details are finalised.”

Fellow Aussie Callum Ferguson has been lined up to replace Head for the conclusion of the One-Day Cup North Group and any potential knockout matches.

New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill will be the County’s other overseas player for the first eight Vitality Blast games before being replaced by Ferguson for the last six matches.
