SKIPPER Jack Haynes came close to a second century inside 24 hours in leading Malvern College to a five-wicket win over Worcestershire Academy.

Haynes, a member of the Worcestershire Academy 2017-2018, had scored his first hundred for Worcestershire Seconds in the Trophy win over Nottinghamshire at Kidderminster.

The Malvern College pupil had looked set for a repeat performance as the college chased 176 in 40 overs.

He made 85 off 78 balls with 16 boundaries, helping to add 111 for the third wicket before he fell to Oliver Halion.

There were three wickets for Ed Bragg, who made two early breakthroughs, but the college triumphed with more than five overs to spare.

Worcestershire Academy had elected to bat and opener Jujhar Johal top-scored with 44 and put on 50 for the first wicket with Will Wade.

After reaching 90 for one, wickets fell at regular intervals as Worcestershire Academy finished on 175 for seven.

Haynes dismissed Johal and there were two wickets apiece for Jack Catto and Josh Baker.

Haynes had also been in superb form for Malvern College in another fixture, scoring 177 not out to inspire a 50-run win over Filton College.
