EXPERIENCE won the day when bowlers from Worcester club St Dunstans met in the Worcestershire county mixed rinks final.

Aqua-Marie Griffiths, 12, Sapphire Griffiths, 17, Thomas Yapp, 10, and Harvey Griffiths, 15, had secured their place at Kidderminster’s Chester Road.

But the final against older opponents, including fathers of the youngsters, proved a step too far in a 32-8 defeat to Helen Simmonds, Hilary Panting, Anthony Yapp and Allan Griffiths.

But St Dunstans secretary Margaret Price said: “The score really didn’t reflect the game.

“The youngsters played very well against experienced bowlers who are all county players.

“The two men were part of the men’s fours that won the England title in 2015 so it was that and the inexperience of playing on a difficult and very fast green.

“Our youngsters have many years ahead of them and I’m sure they have a lot more to give to the game. We are so proud of them.

“If your youngsters don’t like contact sports, bowls is a great alternative. I just wish a few more would come into this lovely game.”
