BEWDLEY went 16 points clear at the top of Worcestershire Cricket League Division One after a rain-hit eight-wicket win over Feckenham.

With Stourport’s game at Worcester Nomads abandoned at the halfway stage, Bewdley took advantage and dismissed Feckenham for 151 with captain Jack Mills taking 5-16 and Grant Morris 4-18.

They just had enough time to seal a victory on a faster scoring rate with 74-2 from 20 overs.

Evesham and Chaddesley Corbett, in third and fourth, won at Pedmore and Cookley respectively on faster scoring rates.

Hagley’s 280-4 against fifth-placed Worcester led to a similar victory.

This weekend’s return to the win/lose/draw format where 24 points are on offer for a victory will make it interesting as there are at least eight teams with a competitive chance of the top five and potentially four chasing the title.

In Division Two, third-placed Belbroughton came unstuck as Droitwich Spa leapfrogged Bredon into fifth place after winning by four runs on a faster scoring rate at Hackmans Gate Lane.

The top two Coombs Wood and Oldswinford pulled clear as both returned victories by eight wickets against Bredon and 56 runs against Himbleton respectively.

Runaway Division Three leaders Lye posted 365-5 at Malvern only to be frustrated by the rain at the interval.

Third-placed Rushwick also saw their match against Hanley Castle and Upton curtailed when they were in a good position to push for victory with 40 overs of the second innings remaining.

Harborne in fourth will also be ruing the rain after posting 289 with Martley on 97-3 in reply.

Bromsgrove recorded a six-wicket win at second-placed Netherton while Five Ways Old Edwardians beat Alvechurch and Hopwood by three wickets to continue their climb up the table.

Avoncroft won a tight game on a faster scoring rate against Eastnor.

Division Four leaders Halesowen looked like they were under pressure at third-placed Astwood Bank on 51-3 chasing 250-6.

Devlin Jacobs had scored 103 for Bank but the rain went on to force an early finish.

Alveley saw 95 from Chris Parkes and 75 not out from Luke Brant help them amass 330 before the rain arrived with Stourport on 45-4.

Romsley and Hunnington took full advantage as they moved back into second place just 12 points behind following a five-wicket victory against West Malvern who dropped to sixth.

Kidderminster climbed back into fourth after beating Tenbury by eight wickets while Claverley went fifth as they kept up with the pace by beating Hallow Taverners by eight wickets thanks to an undefeated 78 from Ryan Mills.

Stourbridge beat Himley on a faster scoring rate to remain in mid-table.
