WORCESTER City assistant boss Ashley Vincent has questioned whether Walsall Wood have got “more in the tank” ahead of tonight’s FA Cup extra preliminary round replay at the Victoria Ground (7.45pm).

Dave Reynolds’ first-half penalty looked to be enough to take City through only for Paul Sullivan to net a last-gasp equaliser on Saturday.

Worcester were under the cosh in the second half as goalkeeper Matt Gwynne pulled off a number of saves.

But Vincent was pleased with the way his side performed and believed they would be able to find an extra gear to see off Wood this evening.

“For 90-odd minutes we were fantastic,” Vincent said.

“I didn’t feel like they were opening us up and causing us a massive threat.

“If anything I felt we were going to score a goal on the break and probably should have done at the end.

“We had a game plan and that was about getting into the next round.

“Whether we do that by playing nice football, which we ultimately want to do, or win 1-0 and play like we did on Saturday which was about being strong and turning things in the corners that’s what we will do.

“If we perform to the levels we have done and add a bit more quality on a better pitch we feel like we have got a bit more in our tank.

“The question is do Walsall Wood? If they do it will be a fantastic game. If they don’t then we will give ourselves a great chance.”

The winner will host Whitchurch Alport in the preliminary round on Saturday, August 25.

City could be without frontman Reynolds, who hobbled off in the closing moments at Wood, for their first competitive home game of the season.

“I think he just took a knock,” Vincent said.

“He tried to finish but the lad has bumped into him.

“It might be a dead leg but hopefully he will be fine for the replay.

“I don’t think it is anything serious but with a quick turnaround of games at this time of year you never know whether he might need an extra day or two.”

Vincent also does not expect either versatile George Forsyth (knee) or striker Nick Turton (knee) to be available for selection.

“Fozz was in our minds for Saturday but he was still sore,” Vincent said.

“He is probably going to miss out again tonight.

“We are not putting an exact timescale on Nick’s return yet but it is not going to be long term.

“We hope to have him back shortly but not within the next week or so.”

Former Alvechurch midfielder Chris Withington made his debut for City at the weekend when he came off the bench in the 64th minute.

“Chris was fantastic in training on Thursday and when we brought him on he did exactly what we asked him to do,” Vincent added.

“He gave us some energy, ran around, passed it into the right areas and competed.

“From what we have seen in those 25 minutes and in training we think we have got ourselves a good player.”
