WORCESTER City’s George Forsyth hopes his injury worries are behind him after feeling “no pain” during Monday’s win over Stourport Swifts.

Forsyth made his third start of the campaign in the 3-1 triumph at the Victoria Ground having been in and out with a knee complaint.

Assessments suggest he suffered a small tear to his meniscus, a small piece of cartilage beneath the knee that provides a cushion between the thighbone and shinbone.

Forsyth’s comeback in an FA Cup replay against Walsall Wood and Midland Football League clash with Coventry United proved ill fated but having sat out last week’s win at Coventry Sphinx, the extra rest appears to have done the trick.

“It feels good, there was no pain against Stourport which was different to the last time I had tried to play,” said Forsyth.

“Maybe I should not have risked it in the Walsall Wood game but I wanted to help the team.

“Monday it was perfect and now it is about trying to get sharp again. I had a good pre-season but have done next to nothing in terms of running for two or three weeks.

“I still have to assess it and see the specialist next week but they have told me I need to play on it, warm it up and get it going because it will just stiffen up and get worse if I leave it.

“Personally, I feel my fitness is around 80-90 per cent. I know there is a bit more to come but I feel better now I know I can get to the gym and do a bit more myself now.

“The worst part about playing with an injury is in your head. Your mind is not fully on it, when you go into a 50-50 challenge or play a pass and know you’re going to feel pain it can be a distraction.”

Forsyth is not the only City player on the comeback trail with Jamie Smith closing in on his return from a neck and shoulder problem, while Mat Birley and Tyler Weir stood out on Monday having overcome their own early-season problems.

“We had a few players out in the first few weeks but the bench was a bit stronger against Stourport,” said Forsyth.

“Things had to settle down. We lost a lot of players from last season with the budget and everything else but we feel like we can kick on now.

“We felt we should have got through in the FA Cup. We are still really disappointed about that but all we can do is keep working to put that right and the past two performances have done that.”
