ASHLEY Vincent has been doing his homework on Worcester City’s rivals and insists: “I don’t think we have anything to fear.”

City’s assistant manager has been running the rule over many Midland Football League Premier Division teams during the first few weeks of the campaign, including a trip to Stourport Swifts against Sporting Khalsa on Saturday.

That was followed by a feisty 3-1 victory over Swifts on Bank Holiday Monday in which Worcester looked more fluent and threatening than in previous outings.

It was no coincidence that the upturn arrived on the back of the return of recognised first-team regulars as a new-look team finally flexed its muscles for the time in 2018-19.

Now Vincent is urging his troops to maintain those standards and shrug off a tricky start that saw City endure a five-match winless streak at the start of the campaign.

“I have been around and seen a lot of football in our league this season and I don’t think we have anything to fear,” said Vincent.

“We know we will have to work hard and that there will be some tough days but as a footballing side ours is as good as you are going to get at this level.

“The boys have to kick on now and see whether we can make this a run of three or four games, not just win a couple then draw or lose one. Can we go out there and put together four or more wins on the bounce?

“First of all we have to stick together and try to put that run in place. There will be twists and turns for everyone but if we can be consistent along the way, be at that certain level all the time then we will give ourselves a chance.

“You make your own luck and that’s what football is about, the effort levels. We know we have quality in the dressing room and when you have the work rate you give yourselves a chance of letting that ability show.

"I don’t think any team can say at this stage that they will get promoted or be in the top six.

“If we are in and around it towards the end of the season, that’s when you can start talking about those things. For now we are just trying to put together runs and performances and Monday was a good foundation to build from.”

Tomorrow sees City travel to Shepshed Dynamo in a bid to make it three wins in a row (3pm).

Dynamo sit second bottom of the Premier Division with one win and four defeats from five league matches. They have conceded 22 goals in seven outings in all competitions.

City trio Tyler Weir, Adam Osbourne and Joel Caines face fitness tests.
