WORCESTER Warriors fly-half Jamie Shillcock faces about six weeks on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery.

The 21-year-old stand-off was initially expected to be back in a fortnight’s time as he looked to recover from the knock he suffered in Warriors’ final warm-up game against Birmingham Moseley.

But after receiving advice from a knee specialist director of rugby Alan Solomons said an operation was seen as the “best thing to do” to fix Shillcock’s issue.

Shillcock is now likely to miss Warriors’ next five Premiership games and possibly the start of their European Challenge Cup campaign in October.

But Solomons said the academy graduate who can also operate at full-back was “happy” with the decision as he bids to come back firing.

“He has just had a clean up of the knee and we are looking at probably six weeks (before he returns),” Solomons said.

“The specialist felt that the best thing to do was to clean it up so the problem doesn’t persist and nag on.

“Jamie felt happy with that so I think that’s the best outcome.”
