DIRECTOR of rugby Alan Solomons insists Jack Singleton’s injury is “nothing major” after the hooker missed Worcester Warriors’ clash with Wasps at the weekend.

Solomons confirmed Singleton, who made 25 appearances for Warriors last term, had a neck issue and felt it was not worth risking the England prospect.

Warriors’ chief also revealed back rower Marco Mama’s absence was down to a groin injury sustained in the build-up to the Premiership opener which Worcester lost 21-20.

“It is nothing major,” said Solomons on Singleton’s injury.

“His neck was not comfortable and I felt that we had the strength in depth there.

“I am not going to push players into games when they are not right.”

On Mama’s injury, Solomons added: “He has got a little bit of a groin strain.

“He picked it up in practice and wasn’t comfortable on Wednesday so we just withdrew him.

“Marco is a terrific player but we have got some really good players (in his position).”

However Solomons has not ruled out both Mama and Singleton being back fit for Warriors’ trip to Sale Sharks on Sunday (3pm).

“We will just have to wait and see what the verdict is on Singo and Marco (early this week),” Solomons said.

“They have got to be right.

“The games are played at a very high level here and it is no good pushing players in.”

With Singleton unavailable, Niall Annett made his first appearance in the top-flight since November 2016 following a succession of injuries.

The Irishman lasted 51 minutes, with Warriors having the edge in the scrum during that period, before he was replaced by Joe Taufete’e.

“Niall has played 30 minutes of rugby in a year and he went out there and put 50 minutes on the clock,” Solomons said.

“I thought he did incredibly well.”
