FLY-HALF Duncan Weir has vowed to be Worcester Warriors’ “little general” this season after making his competitive debut for his new club.

The Scotland international who made the move from Edinburgh this summer was handed the number 10 shirt for Warriors’ Premiership opener against Wasps at Sixways last Saturday.

And the 27-year-old is expected to retain his place as Worcester bid to bounce back from their 21-20 loss when they visit Sale Sharks on Sunday (3pm).

“I am just looking to grasp every opportunity, work really hard and hopefully direct the team around the pitch,” Weir said.

“I want to be clinical, be that little general out there and get the team in the right areas.

“I felt up for the challenge last weekend and it was an exciting starting block.”

Weir racked up 10 points from the tee against Wasps only to miss a last-gasp drop goal to clinch victory for his team. But he added: “We hadn’t really practised our drop goal routine so probably our shape wasn’t ideal.

“I have kicked three in the tail-end of games in my career and they have managed to go over.

“I went through the process all correctly.

“But unfortunately I just dragged it to the left of the post.”
