JORDAN Stoddart reckons he is ready to shatter his once-in-a-blue-moon scoring ratio after getting Worcester City back on track at Dunkirk.

The skipper steered Liam Lockett’s corner back across goal to level matters at the Ron Steel Sports Ground before City ran riot in a 6-1 triumph.

The burly centre-half provides a presence at set-pieces but has suffered his fair share of misfortune when it comes to getting his name on the scoresheet.

His only goal in blue in white prior to Saturday broke the deadlock against Bromsgrove Sporting on Boxing Day only for the festive cheer to get quashed as City blew a three-goal lead with Stoddart conceding a penalty in a 3-3 draw.

More than eight months later, there was far more joy as Jordan Harrison (2), George Forsyth, Adam Osbourne and Kyonn Evans completed a rout that marked the club’s biggest away league win since a 6-0 smashing of Crawley Town on December 16, 1989.

“I was over the moon to score, I have been waiting for it to happen and now it has I feel there is more to come,” said Stoddart.

“At set-pieces I always feel like I can be a danger, particularly with the quality of delivery that we have in the team. Everyone that goes up fancies their chances.

“It was good to get off the mark and a great ball from Locko, I just helped it on really.

“That was an important goal, though. I felt we hadn’t started as well as we could have but that got the ball rolling for me and the team.

“The attitude when we started was sloppy but their goal was a bit of a jolt for us, a wake-up call if you like and once the penny dropped we controlled the game.

“We changed the shape when Joel (Caines) had to pull out (after getting injured in the warm-up) but it was one we were used to anyway, there was nothing unusual and we went into the game knowing what to do.

“There was no last-minute dash, we just didn’t get the start right but thankfully pushed on from there. I always felt the goals were going to come.”

Meanwhile, the captain was quick to pay tribute to City’s “extra man”.

“The supporters were class,” he added.

“Travelling all the way up there in the numbers we did was brilliant. We could hear them all through the game and that gives you a real lift.

“When you hear them cheering you on and celebrating with us at the end, it is like having an extra man at times.

“I feel like we are repaying their faith at the moment and hopefully that shows how grateful we all are to have such good support.”
