WORCESTER City Youth held their inaugural junior football festival across two days at Perdiswell.

More than 70 teams competed in age groups ranging from under 10s to 16s in the competitive pre-season tournament.

Winners and runners-up all went home with individual trophies.

The rare 11-a-side tournament attracted many clubs with teams competing from Powys, Warwickshire, the West Midlands and Gloucestershire alongside local sides.

The group games were played across 15 minutes with a semi-final and final.

There was local success in the under 10s as Evesham United won.

Solihull Academy claimed a double with the under 12s and 14s.

Newtown won the under 11s, Rushall Olympic the under 13s, Colron the under 15s and Sutton Coldfield Town the under 16s.

An under 10s girls' fun festival was also run with Worcester City joined by Black County Cobras, Rowley, Halas Hawks, Kidderminster Lions and Sutton United.

A tournament fair play trophy decided by the referees went to Worcester City's girls.

More than 1,000 people attended the festival with various stalls on display alongside refreshments and a first team club shop.

The successful festival raised funds to continue developing the section headed up by City youth chairman Mark Wilcox who thanked the tournament sponsors.

Many teams have already registered interest to attend next year.
