SUMMER signing Francois Venter believes a rotation policy at Worcester Warriors will stop players from going through the motions.

The South Africa international has started at outside centre for Warriors' opening two Gallagher Premiership games, losing 21-20 to Wasps and 21-15 at Sale Sharks.

But the 27-year-old who played alongside Ryan Mills on both occasions acknowledged there was a strong pool of players who could also shine in Warriors’ midfield.

Wales international Ashley Beck made his first competitive appearance for Worcester when he came off the bench at Sale while Ben Te’o and Wynand Olivier are battling battle to full fitness.

“They are all class players,” Venter said.

“It is a pleasure to work with Millsy and I have played with Wynand before.

“He is a senior campaigner and I started my career being mentored by him.

“He is a very experienced player with a lot of knowledge and it is always nice to learn from him.

“Ashley is also a very good and then we have got a youngster in Ollie (Lawrence) as well, so the competition is very tight here.

“It is just about getting combinations and putting out performances.”

Asked whether he had his work cut out to keep hold of the number 13 shirt, Venter said: “Definitely.

“We are going to be rotational as well as it is a long competition.

“If you play too much rugby you tend to go into a motion so knowing that the other guy is breathing (down your neck) just behind you, you know that you must give your all every weekend.”

Venter said he had been particularly impressed by Beck who joined Warriors from Ospreys ahead of the 2018-19 season.

Like Venter, Beck has won seven caps for his country but his last international appearance came five years ago when Wales beat Tonga 17-7 at the Principality Stadium.

“I think Ashley is a world-class player and I know he is an international as well,” Venter said.

“Injury-wise he was a bit unlucky in the past so hopefully things can turn for him here.”

Venter has worn both the 12 and 13 jersey during his career but he only has his eyes on one shirt at Warriors.

“I have been playing 13 for four years in Super Rugby now,” Venter said.

“Last year I played at 12 for South Africa so I can move around but I prefer 13."

He added: “We have got good depth at centre so you just need to perform when you get that jersey.

“You need to put your hand up and make sure you are not letting the guys down that you are being picked ahead of.

“And if the other guy gets his opportunity you need to support him as well.”
