DIRECTOR of rugby Alan Solomons is hoping Worcester Warriors’ finishing practice will pay dividends when they face Newcastle Falcons at Sixways today (3pm).

Warriors remain winless with two points on the board in the Gallagher Premiership after a 21-20 defeat to Wasps and a 21-15 loss at Sale Sharks.

Solomons felt his side “should have won both games” and reckoned a lack of accuracy in their execution let them down.

This week Solomons has held “intense” training sessions with a big focus on becoming “clinical” when opportunities to score arise.

“We haven’t got the results we would have liked and certainly in the first game we should have got a win,” Solomons said.

“In the second I thought our first-half execution was not good and we paid a price for it but we still had the opportunity to win the game.

“I think the key thing now is we have got to be clinical in the way we finish.”

Ryan Mills and Sam Lewis crossed the whitewash against Wasps before Bryce Heem and Chris Pennell went over at Sale but Warriors came up short in both games.

“The margins at this level of competition are very fine,” Solomons continued.

“We have just ended up on the wrong side of that margin but if we are more clinical we will end up on the right side.

“When you get opportunities you need to finish them off and you need to be accurate in your execution otherwise you will give the opposition opportunities because you end up sacrificing territory and possession.

“That’s exactly what happened in the first half of the last game.”

Solomons added: “You always want to have intensity in your training sessions.

“There are portions of the training sessions that are going to be less intense when you are learning something new.

“But you have got to have a degree of intensity. All the sides do exactly the same.

“We have spoken about finishing so the focus in our practice sessions is making sure that you are clinical and your ball security is good.”
