FORMER Isle of Man TT rider Mark Tyrrell was on his bike again with a trip to Spain.

The 55-year-old from Evesham returned to competition after four years away by racing thoroughbred two-strokes.

Tyrrell tackled the popular Spanish Motorcycle TT Races in La Baneza, Leon, after obtaining a Spanish race licence.

He was helped by the Casco Rojo Moclava team and accepted to ride only a few weeks beforehand.

Tyrrell was the first English competitor to do the elite Spanish Classic 2T Race and piloted a 1971 250cc two-stroke Cesar Montesa which had been restored since Christmas to a race standard by Evesham's Chapman-Tyrrell Racing.

He qualified 25th out of 76 riders over two sessions on two separate two-strokes in 40-degree heat.

The 10-lap race over 17.50 kilometres saw Tyrrell finish 19th.

With back-to-back qualifying and warm-up, he then got 30th out of 41 for the final grid position on his Chapman-Tyrrell GP Honda RS125 in the combined 125cc/Moto 3 contest.

He finished 22nd over 14 laps for 13th GP 125.

Tyrrell is keen to re-challenge in 2019 if accepted.
