FIT-AGAIN hooker Jack Singleton refused to give any excuses for Worcester Warriors’ sorry lineout showing against Newcastle Falcons.

Several of Joe Taufete'e's and Singleton's throws missed the target in Warriors’ 23-20 defeat to Falcons at Sixways last Saturday.

It was Taufete’e's maiden start of the season, replacing Niall Annett who was ruled out with an illness, while Singleton came off the bench to make his first appearance of the 2018-19 campaign after overcoming a neck problem.

Director of rugby Alan Solomons said Warriors' lineout woes were “understandable” considering the pair’s lack of game-time.

But Singleton could not condone the pack's performance and insisted they needed to improve the set-piece ahead of Sunday’s visit to Leicester Tigers (3pm).

“Once you start playing together more you learn combinations and timings which does help,” Singleton said.

“But there are no excuses. We have got to get better as a pack.

“(The lineout) comes down to a lot of things.

“In the first half you have got to credit Newcastle. Calum Green was top for lineout steals in the league last season and he read a lot of them well.

“It’s hard to analyse in the moment, but we have got to look at it as a unit and hopefully fix it ahead of the Leicester game.”

Singleton had not featured for Warriors since their pre-season clash with Hartpury last month. But the 22-year-old said he had fully recovered from his "ongoing" neck issue and was now keen to improve his match fitness.

“I am a little bit behind on game-time,” Singleton said.

“Hopefully I can pick that up over the next couple of weeks but the other hookers have been going well.

“It is good to have competition.

“(The neck issue) was an ongoing thing.

“We couldn’t quite figure it out but my neck was a bit too stiff and it was causing some pins and needles during contact.

“It is absolutely fine now. I didn’t feel it at all (against Newcastle) so it is all good.”
