WORCESTER Warriors legend Craig Gillies has lifted the lid on a “torrid” final six months of his 11-year Sixways career.

Five years after calling it a day Gillies has spoken openly on this week’s instalment of the Worcester Warriors Podcast about how tough it was not to finish on his own terms.

The former second row had signed a contract extension in March 2013 and was three weeks into pre-season ahead of the 2013-14 campaign when he parted company with the club.

Gillies retired at the age of 37 after making a record 288 appearances for Warriors.

“To not be able to finish on your own terms, have a last game and a chance to say goodbye properly to your team-mates was tough,” Gillies said.

“It impacted on everything that was happening away from club so it was a pretty torrid six months.”

This week’s unmissable episode also sees Gillies have his say on Warriors’ start to the season, discuss the side's lineout troubles and recall past visits to Leicester Tigers’ Welford Road with Worcester.
