BRANSFORD ladies celebrated an overdue win in their annual challenge match against the seniors.

In near gale-force conditions, they triumphed 4-2 in a pairs better-ball stableford.

With one lady having to pull out on the morning through injury, John Phillips stepped in to help out.

The Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning was held after the competition which was attended by Sarah Diston, the regional fundraising manager, and raised £200 for the charity.

Meanwhile, the seniors summer league finished with golfers taking their three best stableford scores from the six competitions.

Alan Ford led Division One by five points from Neil Holbrow.

David Wild scored 111, Terry Martin 109, Roy Burston 108 and Rob Blake 107.

Martin Linley was four ahead of Roy Williams in Division Two.

Rob Wetton and Mike Weaver managed 108 and Peter Harrison and Andrew Jarvis 107.

Four finished with 110 in Division Three in Brian Curnock, Pauline Wetton, Allen Rowberry and Gerry McCurry.

But Curnock took top spot with an average of 34.75 against Wetton’s 34.4, Rowberry's 33.2 and McCurry's 32.4.

Vice-captain Andy Falconer finished on 109, Roy Mayo and Adrian Wood 106 and Mike Hendry 105.

In the final round, Division One was led by Holbrow (13 handicap) on 40 from David Hunt (10) on 39, Ford (10) on 38, Martin (17) on 35 and Barry Benge (19) and David Parry (17) on 34.

David Ryall (21) topped Division Two with 39 from Weaver (20) on 38, Harry Godwin (21) and Phil Spencer (20) on 37, Mayo (24) on 35 and Linley (20), Wetton (23) and Jarvis on 34.

Curnock (27) won in Division Three with 40 ahead of Paul Edlin (25) on 39, Steve Littlewood (29) on 38 and Brian Taylor (25) and Hendry (29) on 36.
