WORCESTER Wolves boss Ty Shaw says forward Terrel Martin-Garcia will return to action “very shortly” as he battles back to full fitness.

Martin-Garcia has yet to feature for Wolves in the British Basketball League since his arrival in the summer due to a “sprain to his lower leg”.

But Shaw said the British-born 23-year-old was “progressing nicely” and he would make a decision today on whether the player was fit enough to take on Bristol Flyers at the University of Worcester Arena tomorrow (7.30pm).

“Terrel had a bit of a sprain to his lower leg but I think he will be back very shortly,” Shaw said.

“He is working really hard and has a great attitude like the rest of this group. We have that two-week break after the Bristol game before we play again.

“If he doesn’t play tomorrow then he will definitely be ready to go after that from what we know right now but things change.

“Obviously the safety of the players is always going to be first and foremost so we are never going to put a player out there in a situation when they are not 100 per cent ready to play.

“He has been progressing nicely but it is a slow process. Any time it is lower leg you are definitely a bit more hesitant to push a guy out there.

“But we will see how the week goes and make a decision.”

Wolves gifted London Lions 17 offensive rebounds in their 82-65 defeat at The Copper Box last Friday.

Shaw said the presence of 6ft 6in Martin-Garcia, who was playing for Adelphi University in the USA last season, would help improve that statistic when he makes his comeback.

Wolves are also missing 6ft 8in centre Quadir Welton who remains in America awaiting approval on a visa.

“Once Terrell gets back that will be another big body on the floor for us,” Shaw said.

“We would then be able to play Robert (Crawford) in his more natural position.

“He has been doing some great work and doing everything that has been asked of him.

“But once we have got some big bodies in there I think that will help us defensively and with our rebounding.”
