DAVE Reynolds revealed a return to Worcester City would top his wish list should his Redditch United move not go to plan.

The hotshot admitted recently turning 30 had swayed his decision to take the offer of stepping up two levels with the Reds on the back of 34 goals in 54 games for City.

Reynolds is confident of making the grade at Southern Premier Central level but insists he has no intention of severing ties with Worcester.

“It was a tough decision, I spoke to Snapper (City manager John Snape) a couple of times and had lots to consider right to the end,” said Reynolds.

“The fans have been great with me and so has Snapper. I sent him a message to say thank you for everything, especially helping to bring on my game even further.

“My time at Worcester pushed on the other side of my game, taking better care of the ball and making the right runs.

“In the end it was about that opportunity to kick on again and play even higher, it proved too much to turn down.

“I am getting towards the latter stages of my career and want to make the most of it. I don’t want to look back in five or 10 years and feel like I hadn’t pushed myself to the maximum.

“If it doesn’t work out and I have drop back down or go somewhere else so be it, at least I know I have given it a go and I think I am more than capable of stepping up.

“I went to the Lye game to say a few goodbyes and if it doesn’t work out my first call will be to Snapper.

“The club made me welcome from the start and I have had a lot of lovely messages since leaving.

“I’d like to thank everyone at Worcester for the opportunity to get to where I am. I wish the lads all the best for the season and hope they kick on and win the league.”

Reynolds is still getting over ankle ligament damage sustained a month ago but scored in Redditch’s recent friendly with Racing Club Warwick.

“I am not 100 per cent fit yet and had a niggle after coming off in midweek but I'm getting there,” he added.

“It has been a month or so since I last played properly so I need to get that bit of sharpness back as well. It has been frustrating but now I’m looking forward to getting a run of games.

“The ability of the players is a bit higher and you have put in everything in to fit in but whatever level you play at that work rate has to be there, that is fundamental. Do that and the rest will come.”
