WORCESTER Swimming Club aces achieved their highest placing at the Nuneaton District Junior League.

The A and B teams made the finals in Division One and Division Three for the first time in the club’s history with both impressing against high-quality opposition.

In the Division One final, Worcester qualified from the heats as fifth seeds, drawing the likes of City of Coventry, Leicester Sharks, Boldmere, Northampton and Orion.

Against some of the quickest in the region, first places proved hard to come by with Worcester managing six wins on the night to secure maximum points.

Victories were secured by Harry Chandler in the boys' 10/u 50-metre backstroke (35.87 seconds) and 50m freestyle (31.73), Beau Vaughan-Hawkins in the boys' 10/u 25m butterfly (16.50), Jacob Cutler in the boys' 9/u 25m backstroke (18.43), Asha Mahanta in the girls' 9/u 25m breaststroke (22.13) and the boys' 10/u 4x25m medley relay team of Chandler, Vaughan-Hawkins, Oliver Dieppe and Daniel Thomas.

There were individual second places for Bethan Stokes, David Annis, Grace Ryder, Mike Agoston, Amelie Forsyth-Ball, Jess Day and Mahanta.

Worcester scored 181 points behind Coventry on 226 and Leicester on 210 but ahead of Boldmere on 165, Northampton on 158 and Orion on 124.

The squad also included Flora Middleton, Oliver Beale, Milly Hemming, Grace Earp, Libby Gooden-Morris, William Pridden, Archie Darby-Duffield, William Thomas, Martha Colville, Elizabeth Annis, Emma Pettit, Emma McKay, Lia Chance, William Hemming, Lucas Bray, Henry Catlow, Ben Gooch, Jessica Dobson, Charlie Dixon, Maddison Lavoipiere and Maisie Lyons.

In the Division Three final, Worcester B were up against Cheadle, Northampton B, Burntwood, Oldbury and Droitwich having qualified as sixth seeds.

They secured 11 wins with individual victories for Amelie Fox-Haskins in the 12/u 50m freestyle (31.75), Harry Guest in the 10/u 50m backstroke (43.09), Ellie Harle in the 11/u 50m breaststroke (43.06), Eve Hind in the 10/u 25m butterfly (18.25), Issy Wilkinson in the 12/u 50m backstroke (37.06), Lottie Richardson in the 10/u 50m breaststroke (48.13) and Ruby Ingles in the 11/u 50m backstroke (39.84).

There were also relay wins for the girls' 12/u 4x25m freestyle (Fox-Haskins, Isobel Foster, Olivia Eggleton and Issy Wilkinson), girls' 11/u 4x25m medley (Tallulah Richards, Frankie Reed, Harle and Ingles), girls' 10/u 4x25m medley (Lillie Sawyer, Abigail Walter, Hind and Ruby Kelly) and girls' 9/u 4 x 25m freestyle (Madison Falconer, Evie Goodall, Lottie Hill and Charlotte Ciancio).

Worcester got 167 points to finish behind Cheadle on 196, Northampton B on 195 and Burntwood on 182 but ahead of Oldbury on 163 and Droitwich on 136.

The squad also included Daniel Arridge, Alexander Cutler-Tucker, Louis Delord, Evan Rogers, Evan Beale, Jack Adams, Libby Nawarycz, George Parker, William Colville, Euan Kirby, Jacob Smith and Harry Ryder.

Worcester head coach Mark Stowe saidd: “It was a great achievement to have both teams in the final for the first time.

"Although there were some outstanding individual swims against top-quality opposition, this was a terrific team performance from both squads.

"It was especially pleasing to see both improve on their seedings in the final too.”
