SOPHIE Kenny and Leah Thakur earned gold medals as Droitwich’s Kazoku-Kan Judo Club hosted their first championship event in Kidderminster.

Several Kazoku-Kan members took part in the competition with newcomer Kenny showing impressive groundwork in the Adaptive Judo style to clinch top spot.

Thakur showed grit and determination to win her fights and walk home with the gold medal in her category.

Matty Kenny and Dylan Moore, who were two of the lightest fighters on the day, both fought hard and gained the bronze medals.

Corey Chapman went up against larger, more experienced fighters but was still good enough to secure bronze.

James Worsfold and Joshua Warburton put up some of the best Judo of their careers so far and both were awarded bronze medals.

Ellie Bullock, in her first ever competition, took to the mat and put on a great display in each of her six contests to net bronze.

A club spokesperson said: “We would like to congratulate and thank all clubs for their medals and for supporting our first event and making it a success.

“We are planning our next one already which will be held next year.”
