Worcester City: Slashed prices for Non League Day & Age UK link

City has teamed up with Fans for Diversity, a group that promotes people from all backgrounds feeling “safe and welcome” at football matches.

LGBT and Polish communities along with voluntary groups at clubs such as West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa and Birmingham City have been encouraged to sample the grassroots game with slashed gate prices all round for the FA Vase clash with Long Eaton United (3pm).

Adult admission has been reduced to £6 with concessions entering for £4 and kids for a quid in operation for all under-16s.

It is the first of many initiatives in the pipeline with chairman Steve Goode revealing plans to run free travel for the elderly to City’s home matches.

The exiled club plays at Bromsgrove with Goode engaging with Age UK and Worcester Wheels to reach out those who have been unable to attend and newcomers while tackling social problems.

“We’re looking at helping to reduce loneliness and isolation as well as tackling mental health issues for men,” said Goode.

“It is something we have not done before and we would like to know how many people would like to take it up and come along.

“One of the things I keep bringing up is how we have lost touch with a lot of our elderly fans who can no longer get to games. This will be an opportunity for them to come along and see their club again.

“Personally, I have seen this as an issue for a long time. The older generation has always been a big part of our fan base and when we left St George’s Lane a lot of those people stopped coming.

“I don’t think it is a case of them not wanting to, more that circumstances can make it difficult to get there. In some cases people simply can’t get there.

“Hopefully we can make this a regular thing as long as we have people wanting to use the service.

“This is the first of many things we hope to do but it will have to be done in stages.”
