WORCESTER Wolves have swooped to sign giant forward Deshawn Freeman with Quadir Welton’s future still in the balance.

The club acknowledged “disruptions in the visa process” had scuppered Welton’s hopes of featuring to date with Freeman scheduled to arrive “in the coming weeks”.

Freeman joins from Israel National League side Maccabi Kiryat Motzkin having graduated from Rutgers University last season where he captained Scarlett Knights. Head Coach Ty Shaw said “Deshawn joins us after competing at a very high level in the NCAA Division 1.

"He was a team captain while at Rutgers and brings a dynamic to our team that fans should really enjoy.

“We are very excited to welcome him to the Wolfpack and look forward to seeing his energy on court.”

Commenting on the move, Managing director Mick Donovan added: “We are really excited at the prospect of Deshawn joining the Wolves and feel sure that he will be a huge favourite with the fans.

“He has enjoyed a really good college career and we believe he will make a significant impact in the BBL.”

Next on the agenda for Wolves is a home clash with Manchester Giants on Friday, October 19 (7.30) at the University of Worcester Arena.
