DOTING dad Tyler Weir dedicated his match-winning double to ill son Carlton after sealing Worcester City's safe passage in the FA Vase.

Weir weaved his magic to waltz into the box and fire high across goal and then rounded off a crisp team move to plunder City's second via a deflection in Saturday's 2-1 triumph over Long Eaton United.

The popular full-back, thrust into a more advanced position on the right of the three supporting lone frontman Jordan Harrison, had not trained in the build-up due to his lad suffering with foot and mouth.

It meant he came off aching at full-time but Weir still found the energy to salute his main man.

"I haven't been at training because of my boy being ill," revealed Weir.

"He is two in a couple of weeks and has had a really hard time going in and out of hospital. It is not nice seeing him upset but he's on the mend now so that's good news.

"Those two goals were for him and hopefully I'll get some more.

"Maybe if I don't train next week I'll score two again!

"I have been shooting more recently without much coming off but thankfully they went in.

"I was going to cross the first one but thought I'd try my luck, I chopped the guy and couldn't believe it. I don't think the keeper had a chance.

"Jamie Smith started the move (for the second) and I played one-two with Chris (Withington). It got deflected in but I am definitely claiming it!

"Winning was the main thing but I was happy to get two goals. The hat-trick didn't come but we won so it was a good day.

"In the past few weeks I have been playing wing-back but had the chance to play further up the pitch and I enjoyed it. Long may it continue."

Finishing fourth last season saw City bypass the early rounds of the FA Vase and victory on Saturday leaves them six matches from a Wembley final, something Weir feels the team is better prepared to push for this term.

"We had a good team last season but we have more togetherness this time," he added.

"Everyone is enjoying themselves and to be unbeaten in 13 is great. We have been doing well but have two tough games coming up against Ilkeston and Sporting Khalsa. If we can take six points from them then it will be a good start.

"We lost to Highgate last season but we are one of the favourites to do well and there's nothing stopping us. Hopefully the big teams will play each other and we can get easier draws but with the way we're playing at the minute, we'll take on anyone."
