MANAGER Les Jones hopes Nick Seabourne's flying start at Pershore Town does not see the vultures start to circle.

Seabourne was snapped up by Highgate United in the summer after 84 goals in five season for Droitwich Spa but has since joined Jones's revolution at Town.

The hotshot marked his arrival with an early goal in last week's 2-1 home defeat to Smethwick Rangers before plundering both as bottom-of-the-table Pershore battled back from two down to draw 2-2 with Dudley Sports on Saturday.

Seabourne safely put away a second-half penalty with a far-post tap-in completing the comeback at King George V Playing Fields.

Jones was understandably delighted yet concerned at the same time that his striker's exploits may court unwanted attention.

"If someone starts scoring goals for you that is the worry but he has come over with the intention of turning Pershore into a top team at this level," said Jones.

"As long as we can retain his services he will be an important player for us."

The result ended a run of eight straight defeats in all competitions, seven of which came in the league, but Jones was left with mixed emotions over his fourth match in charge.

"We should have won the game," he added.

"Their penalty came from a mistake and then they got another on the break in the second half but generally, we dominated.

"We had a penalty of our own, got the equaliser and should have gone on to win. Even in the first half we created five or six chances.

"It was a much-improved performance and very encouraging in so many ways.

"We have been pleased with the upturn but in some ways it is two steps forward, one back. It is coming together.

"There is a new committee of 12 people in place now so hopefully the club has a bright future."

Pershore host Uttoxeter Town in the Smedley Crooke Cup tonight (7.45) with a trip to league leaders Tividale next on Saturday (3pm).

Attentions then turn to the Worcestershire Senior Urn tie at home to Worcester City on Tuesday (7.45).

"If we could get a point at Tividale it would be a miraculous result from where we have come from," said Jones.

"The games are coming thick and fast with Worcester next. It doesn't get any easier but with the quality we have now we certainly look like a mid-table team, at least.

"We will also benefit from having a few training sessions once we have fewer midweek matches."
