WORCESTER Hockey Club's women have started the campaign in style.

Their seconds top Worcestershire League Division One after winning 4-0 at Bournville and the fourths are fourth in Division Three following a 2-2 home draw with Stourport sixths.

The firsts lost 5-3 to Stourport thirds in Midlands Feeder West as the players struggled with the wind and rain.

Worcester's goals came from a well-executed reverse shot by Holly Smith, a Tash Walker penalty corner and a smart back-post deflection by Victoria Howell from Helen Barnes’ bullet-like pass.

The thirds secured a 3-0 win over visitors Bournville seconds in Division Two.

In Midlands T1 Division One, Worcester men's firsts lost 4-0 at North Stafford.

The game started slowly with the hosts getting an early break and converting their chance.

Worcester had a disallowed effort and forced a goal-line clearance but conceded a second just before half-time to a quick passing move.

The visitors dictated the pace for much of the second half but could not finish their opportunities and Stafford netted twice more.

Worcester's man of the match was Alastair Borwell-Fox.

The seconds drew 3-3 at Cannock thirds in the T2 West Midlands Premier Division with goals from Henry Jeffs and Ryan Harding (2).

The only win came from the fifths who beat Redditch thirds 4-3 in T3 South West Division Two.

Worcester thirds lost 3-2 to Kings Heath Pickwick in the Premier Division and the fourths fell 5-1 at Bridgnorth thirds in Division Two.

The sixths lost 3-0 to Hampton-in-Arden fourths in Division Three and the sevenths went down 4-1 to Solihull Blossomfield thirds.

Worcester’s girls' under 14s netted five against Stourport in their England Hockey Tier Two league game with a Bryony Gillgrass hat-trick. The Pippins beat Droitwich Spa 4-1.

Worcester have seven men’s, four women’s and two junior teams playing on a Saturday along with a midweek veterans and many junior age group sides.
