ASHLEY Vincent was left with mixed emotions after much-changed Worcester City's 2-0 win at Pershore Town in the Worcestershire Senior Urn.

The assistant manager, in charge during the absence of boss John Snape, saw a Kyonn Evans double extend to 15 matches City’s unbeaten run in all competitions.

It was anything but fluent, though, with Pershore threatening an equaliser during a frantic ending to the first half.

Evans fired the opener low across goal from the edge of the penalty area 17 minutes in and then sealed the deal by driving high inside the far post shortly after half-time.

“I think we all feel the same,” said Vincent.

“It was stop-start and sluggish from both sides and I didn’t think our quality showed apart from when we got the goals.

“We didn’t pass the ball as well as I wanted us to. It was an opportunity for a few boys to put on a performance and get in a good, sharp 90 minutes.

“I know it is tough to do when they haven’t been playing games but we were off.

“The main positives were the two goals for Kyonn, (winger) Callum Harper playing well at right-back and getting through to the next round.

“After the second goal the attitude from both sides was that the game was over.

"There were more than 40 minutes to go and I wanted our side to step up, show some energy and get a couple more goals but we didn’t – that was the disappointment."

Asked whether City’s support cast had given him food for thought ahead of facing Sporting Khalsa on Saturday, Vincent replied: “To be honest the answer is probably no.

“In the first half Pershore were very physical. Their game plan was to break up the play, get set pieces and load the area.

“I understand that and it didn’t help but I still expected us to be sharp, want the ball and be brave enough to pass and move quicker.

“It felt like both teams wanted the game to be over at 2-0.

“I don’t want to be too downbeat, though. We have won and that’s a habit.

“At the moment we’re in that good habit of scoring, not conceding and most importantly winning.

“As much as I would have wanted more we have made the next round. If you had told me before the game we would win 2-0 and keep our run going I would have been happy. We'll take it."
