CAPTAIN Jordan Stoddart and player-coach Mat Birley will undergo fitness tests ahead of Worcester City’s home clash with Sporting Khalsa on Saturday (3pm).

The influential duo have been struggling with muscle strains this week and will be granted as much time as possible to gain the all clear.

“They are the two we are unsure about, they will be assessed and because of the players they are will be given until Saturday to prove their fitness,” said assistant manager Ashley Vincent.

Andy Gallinagh (knee ligaments) remains sidelined but Tom Fishwick could come into contention, giving Vincent a mammoth selection headache.

“Tom will be considered along with the others boys, it means there may be a few lads disappointed not to be in the 16 but that’s a sign of what we have now,” he added.

“Earlier in the season we had to bring in two or three youth players for the bench but now there is a similar number of first-team players featuring for the reserve side on Saturdays.

“That can only be a good thing. Now it is about the best players making the cut and the others will need to make the most of their match time with the second string to try to push and get those shirts back.”
