WORCESTER Warriors and Sale Sharks have taken different approaches to tonight’s Premiership Cup opener at Sixways (7.45pm).

While Warriors have picked five internationals in a star-studded line-up Sale have presented a number of youngsters an opportunity to make their senior debuts.

TEAM NEWS: WORCESTER WARRIORS V SALE SHARKS

Sharks stated their selection was “in accordance with the spirit of the competition” which is viewed by many Premiership outfits as a platform to blood academy aces.

Here’s what rugby fans had to say about the two matchday squads on social media and on Warriors' unofficial supporters' forum.

Bob Low‏ (@MarleyLow).

Sale also have the smallest squad in the Premiership, add to that international call-ups plus injuries and they HAD to play a young side.

Jon Davies‏ (@JonDaviesTewks).

Fortunately, and fingers crossed, we have more strength in depth and could rest quite a few in Europe.

Simon Cutting‏ (@simongcutting).

A real shame that there is only one academy player in the squad. We might have a great academy.... but they all need game time to develop!

Neil Clifton‏ (@NeilClifton).

I say we get our first team ready to kick some ass in the Prem. Our selection is good enough for me.

Laurence Beard‏ (@lauriebeard).

I think they’ve got the Premiership Cup and the Shield mixed up.

Ali Stokes‏ (@alistokesrugby).

That's one hell of a Premiership Cup backline. Feel like Worcester are playing with fire starting Singleton, Lewis, GJ, Heem, Adams, Weir and Hougaard. Injuries in this competition could have real ramifications on the relegation battle.

Catherine Oliver‏ (@Cath_TCtravel).

Keeping up the momentum...we aren't playing with fire...we are ON fire and currently seventh so nowhere near a relegation battle...and our youngsters have won their last two European games.

#RugbyWorcs‏ (@RugbyWorcs).

Wait a moment... so is Dimes attempting to claim some moral high ground?!! You've got a lot of climbing to do fella...

Tom Hiorns‏ (@tomhiorns).

I think they'd play less established players in the two away games. Need the first-team players to get some game-time after the five to six-week break of Premiership rugby.

Underdog.

I have to say I would have expected a more even blend of first-team, second-team and academy. While I can see the value in the first-team blowing the cobwebs away, I think we've missed a chance to have some of our big hitters playing alongside those next in line. At some point, injuries are going to force new combinations on us anyway. Alas. Let's hope we win now!

Malvern Man.

I just wonder if, with some strength in depth at last, Mr Solomons aims to win something.

Teme Dream.

I doubt we'll field such a strong team against Tigers and Sarries away. I suspect the club has an eye on attendance figures - this line-up should pull in a bigger crowd than we would expect for a cup game against unattractive opposition (sorry Sale fans).

ROLLO.

So much for my thoughts on a blend with academy lads then. It does however keep the senior player ticking over.
