ASHLEY Vincent has no qualms with Worcester City fans getting carried away by a 15-match unbeaten run – but insists his squad cannot join the fanfare.

City’s last setback came via a penalty shootout in an FA Cup replay against Walsall Wood in August with 11 victories and five clean sheets since.

Sat third, three points off the top with three games in hand on second-placed Westfields, talk has inevitably turned towards a title tilt ahead of tomorrow's home crunch clash with fourth-placed Sporting Khalsa (3pm).

“It is fine by me and for the club it is absolutely great,” said Vincent.

“The chairman wants bums on seats and if fans get excited and tell their neighbours – maybe people who have not been for a few years because of things going on – that we’re playing great football and beating the top sides it can only be a good thing.

“We want our supporters to have something good to watch and enjoy but as a team, we are just thinking about the next game and putting in performances.

“The main thing for me and the gaffer is getting the lads out there and matching effort levels and physicality.

“We know we have quality in abundance and that’s not in two or three players, I am talking about a good 14 or 15. If we do the right things I think we have more than enough quality to be there or thereabouts.

“We are concentrating on one game at a time. I know that’s the typical thing to say but we can’t look too far ahead.

“No one is getting promoted or relegated now. All we can do is keep playing the game that is in front of us.

“We are just going to keep banging on the door and try to keep going this unbeaten run – long may it continue.

“You’re probably talking about the end of February when you know whether you are within touching distance and have a real shot. If you can be around the top four or five then, that’s when you can turn the screw.”

But while Vincent is bullish about City’s prospects, he acknowledges there will need to be an adjustment to the extremities of winter.

“All of these nice days will go to pot soon,” he added.

“The pitches will change, it will be freezing cold and we will go away to tricky places but we know we have the ingredients to dig in and show quality.

“All of the qualities of the good sides I played in are present here. It is not a question of us feeling unsure about a physical battle, we have played Walsall Wood three times and bar a penalty shootout did not lose.

“We know what we have, how high we finish in the league will come down to how many times we can bring it all together.”
