WORCESTER teenager James Sarkar achieved his summer target of landing a zander.
The 15-year-old Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College pupil landed the fish last week as he went on a night-time fishing expedition on the River Avon in Worcester.
Throughout the summer, Sarkar has fished alongside his father, who has unsuccessfully fished for big carp on the Warwickshire Avon near Worcester, and caught many pike, to 16lb 12oz, however, until last Friday, the big zander had eluded him.
The fish - one of the biggest taken from the Avon this year - came to a legered dace deadbait an hour after dark and weighed in at 11lb 6oz.
Sarkar said: "It was so big that I thought it was a pike, when I saw it was a huge zander I was amazed and very, very pleased to net it safely."
The fish was returned to the river.
