CORNELL du Preez is out of hospital – but Worcester Warriors boss Alan Solomons is still unsure when the back rower will return to action.

The Scotland international was spotted at Sixways last Friday watching Warriors beat Sale Sharks 35-3 in the Premiership Cup.

His appearance with his partner Anel Jansen followed his long-awaited release from hospital where he received treatment for a damaged voice box and fractured Adam’s apple.

The 27-year-old sustained the injuries in Warriors’ 21-20 home defeat to Wasps on September 1.

Solomons said du Preez spoke with a “whisper” but was pleased to see the forward who joined Warriors in the summer in “good form”.

“He is out hospital so that is the really good news,” Solomons said.

“Hopefully he is going to continue to progress and then let’s see where he is in a month’s time when we will get a better indication.

“I am hoping by the end of this year we will get clarity on the prognosis.”

Asked whether du Preez was likely to play again this season, Solomons said: “I wouldn’t like to say because I am not the specialist.

“By the end of the year I think we will have greater clarity on the prognosis.

“He has had very good treatment as Birmingham is an outstanding hospital.

“The ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) specialists there are outstanding so he has been in good hands and the club has been fantastic and very supportive.”

On du Preez’s ability to speak, Solomons added: “The last time we met it was still a whisper so I can’t imagine that’s changed too much.

“But he was in good form. The most important thing is how he is personally and I just want him to get better.”
