ASSISTANT manager Ashley Vincent has urged his players to rediscover their “ruthless streak” when Worcester City host Desborough Town in the Buildbase FA Vase second round on Sunday (3pm).

City fired a blank for only the second time this term in last weekend’s 1-0 home defeat to Sporting Khalsa in the Midland League Premier Division.

Vincent expects another bruising encounter at the Victoria Ground when Desborough make the trip from Northamptonshire to Bromsgrove.

Town are ninth in the United Counties League Premier Division with three wins, six draws and three defeats.

“They are very physical and in a similar mould to Sporting Khalsa so it is going to be a really tough game,” Vincent said.

“We have got to match that like I thought we did last Saturday and let our quality come through when we do get our chances.

“What I am asking for is more of a ruthless streak so we can put games to bed.”

Striker Jordan Harrison spurned a number of opportunities against Khalsa but Vincent is confident the 21-year-old will bounce back.

Vincent also hinted at bringing forward Nick Turton, who missed the start of the season due to a knee injury, back into the starting line-up.

“We have got goal-scorers and creative players in our side,” Vincent said.

“Yes, it was not Jordan’s day last weekend but he will be the first to put his hands up and say that.

“We can’t aim anything at him as he has scored big goals for us and will do again.

“We have just got Turts back into the squad and he is itching to start.

“I have not selected the side yet but there are no fitness worries as far as putting Turts into the side.

“He wants to play and has been knocking on the door. The physicality that he offers is maybe something we have missed.

“We have been on a good run but he adds something a little different.”

Worcester could also be boosted by the return of midfielder Mat Birley from a foot injury while left-sided player Jamie Smith is struggling with bruised ribs.

The loss to Khalsa ended City’s 15-match unbeaten run but Vincent has challenged his men to launch another hot streak.

“What we don’t want is for that defeat to knock their confidence as we want them to go on another good run,” Vincent said.

“If we can do that we will be even closer to achieving some of the goals that we have set ourselves.

“What we have got to do now is go out on Sunday and get the right result because then it will just look like a blip in what has been a brilliant run.

“The Vase is a big competition and it’s a realistic chance of playing at Wembley.

“The boys have got to keep performing, keep believing and stick together because if we can play to our full potential then we will give ourselves a chance of making the next round.”
