JAMIE Shillcock has likened Worcester Warriors’ game plan to “slow poison” as they bid to see off Leicester Tigers at Welford Road in the Premiership Cup today (3pm).

Warriors have won on their past two visits to Tigers’ ground including September’s memorable 44-37 triumph.

That day saw Worcester let slip a 37-11 advantage as Leicester came storming back to draw level before Ted Hill crossed at the death to clinch a dramatic victory.

The Sixways side also failed to kick on after opening up healthy half-time leads in wins over Ospreys and Sale Sharks.

And Shillcock admits it is those second-half slumps Warriors are keen to avoid as they look to extend their winning run to five games.

“In the last game we gave away 10 penalties in the second half which is a lot,” said the versatile 21-year-old.

“We have got to a point in the past couple of weeks where we have played well in the first half and built up a decent lead but let teams back in the game.

“We call it slow poison where we want to keep the foot on the throat.

“We need to be ticking over for the first 10 minutes of the second half with three or six points to really drag the opposition down.

“If it is 21-3 at half-time and we get the next score it puts them under a world of pressure.”

Shillcock believes doing the double over teams should be a “realistic target” now for Warriors but is anticipating a physical battle at Tigers.

“We coughed up quite a few points when we played them earlier in the season,” Shillcock said.

“We want to make sure that we set that marker down, compete physically and try to keep them down to a minimum points tally.

“Welford Road is always a tough place to go. I have played there once and it was really hard.

“To win there two years on the bounce and be able to beat them with bonus points as well was fantastic.

“Four wins on the bounce is great but we want to keep pushing that and seeing how far we can go and build into this next Premiership block.”
